Citroen DS5

Earlier this year the wraps came off the new Citroen DS5 at the Shanghai Motor Show and all I can say is – Stylish!

I didn’t really know anything about this new DS5 until I got curious as to what the French were doing with the Citroen C4 and I’m glad I looked. At first glance I wasn’t quite sure if it was a hatch or a compact SUV but further reading reveals that it’s a combination of a coupe and a flexibility of a hatch.  According to specs it’s 300mm shorter than a standard C5 and judging by the photos circulating on the net it has followed the inspiration of the DS3 and DS4. I liked the DS4 but I like this even more, with its long sloping roofline and aggressive looking front end, it’s hard not to be impressed. The new DS lines are very style-focused and it features heavily in the interior with a cockpit like design where controls can be found overhead.

Citroen AU website:

“DS5 is the first Citroën model to feature HYbrid4 diesel hybrid technology, providing enhanced performance and class leading environmental credentials.  The advanced HYbrid4 system delivers 200bhp; four-wheel drive capability; emission-free electric power for the city; and an acceleration boost function for the open road – with total CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.”

What impressed me about the Citroen C4 is the technological innovation and Citroen maintains that in this new DS5 model, it’s also bold and assertive. I love the wide front grille housing the chevrons and I see that they have added LED light signature as well. From the back, it sits nicely on the road and looks menacing with it’s two tail pipes built in to the rear bumper.
Price? well who knows, judging by the press release it looks like it’s targeted at the executive level as it is a “modern expression of status”
